You're listening to the Get Out N Drive Podcast fueled by AMD with your host John Custom Car Nerd Meyer and Jason Old Carr Guy Carr will be bringing you gearheads, everything you've never wanted to know about cars and why they should be on the road and not in your garage. Are you ready to get out N Drive?
John
I had fun. At. See 10s in the city in Atlanta and I'm. I'm just me. It did rain a little bit, but we walked around, talked with everybody at AMD, met a lot of friends, met a lot of new. Friends. I hung out with a lot of people. What? What'd you do?
Jason
Well, I had someone ask me for my autograph. I thought that was. Pretty damn cool. That's never happened. And like I think when you when you go to these events, you're meeting up with a lot of. Mutual hobby. Thinking alike, obviously it's a C10 truck show, so there's no, no, there's no dodges to it. Whatever. It's all C10. So we've all got that in common. As a rule, and. Just meeting up and getting to see all these people with that common interest in one spot there had to be. At least 300, maybe 350 trucks. Despite the rain or the threat of rain. I still had a blast. We got to see a lot of people, a lot of a lot of famous people were there. Derek Berry, Kevin Tates Mike Finnegan, and had the opportunity to, to chat with those guys a little bit while we.
John
State.
Jason
Were there too? And of course, Eddie and Jason huge. Promoters of this event and and they were they were running around right. All day.
John
Rick and Rick and Sarah.
Jason
Yeah, yeah. Rick and Sarah, they, they pulled off a great show. They were worried about the rain, but I I still would call this event this year a whopping success. And I'm glad that I I'm glad that I got to go.
John
I I thought it. Was pretty cool. It wasn't my style. Let me start. There wasn't my style, but the big giant silver C-10 from Built-By-Yo. Yeah. Wow, that thing was huge.
Jason
30 inch wheels and tires.
John
My God, it was huge. I don't even know where to start. That. I don't know. It was parked right in front of our booth and it was it. It was an attraction like you wouldn't believe of a crowd all day and it.
Jason
Now.
John
It was giant. I mean, you could almost walked underneath it. It had to been 12 foot tall.
Jason
Easily.
John
I mean it was. It was a big, big-ass vehicle. What was your favorite truck there? I know I had. I had my favorite and they may be the same. But where? What was yours?
Jason
Well, if you guys follow me on YouTube, I've done my video and I expressed my showstopper of the show and it was this beautiful 77 GMC Jimmy. It was a K5 lowered to the ground. Kind of like a baby blue Robin. Egg blue. Whatever you want to call it. It had the buddy buckets in the front with the console. Had the Plaid in the seats, the manual crank window in the rear. I mean, this thing was absolutely stunning. A you know, a set of Detroit steel wheels on it. Stock 350 working AC like it was just it was right. Right. And even though it was kind of buried between two other vehicles, it still stood out. I was drawn to that thing like a madman. I kept going back to it several times throughout the day and finally was able to get some footage and talk to the owner a little bit about it and to me. Granted, there's there was a lot of really nice trucks there, this one just. Stood out to. Me, John. How about you? Which one? Which one caught your eye?
John
I liked that one and I think it was the same vehicle that has the. What's it called the? Desert. Stripes on the side?
Jason
The desert fox.
John
Yeah, the desert fox stripes. And it had desert fox stripes. And was that the same one that had the light blue stripe in the bottom of it? Or that was a different truck? That was a tan truck that had the. Desert fox, with the light blue. Oh was. That.
Jason
Was that sitting over there underneath the rings? Yes, on that front row. Yeah. So that that one was different because it didn't have the stripes down. Both sides of the hood had it on the driver side.
John
Yes. On one side, right.
Jason
Yeah. And it incorporated a little bit of blue in. That desert fox.
John
Rice, I wanted to hate it, but the blue look killer? Yeah. Problems.
Jason
It did it. Just it popped.
John
It looked. Killer, I mean, we were checking it out at the pre party.
Jason
Yes.
John
Oh. At and it was just sitting there. Subtle as hell. And I couldn't stop looking at it. It was super well built. I mean badass truck that I don't care. Somebody took a chance, whatever that desert fox stripe with that little bit of blue in the bottom.
Jason
Yeah. And. Those stripes were painted. I overheard the owner. Not details. No, there's no decal there. That is all paint, and there were several of that style of paint scheme. There was this old beat up. I don't want to say beat out. I don't want to offend anybody. Else. There was this old original. Blazer. It was white and it had the four different colors of green in the Desert rock style stripe. And that thing absolutely looked mint.
John
M.
Jason
It totally changed.
John
I like that truck. It was it was knocked around. Just a little bit. And it had it had issues and paint chips and things. Right. I drive the wheels off of that. Thing.
Jason
Now, and that's the bonus part of driving a vehicle that's got a little bit of love on it already is you can you. You're not worried about getting stuck in. Rain. You're not worried about getting a shopping cart bumped into it at the mall like there's it's already got a few battle scars. Like Dale, the truck had a few little picks and less than that, even my suburban Dale Junior got a few little love taps here and there. But at the end of the day, it's not perfect. I don't care if I get caught in. The rain in. Fact I still haven't washed it since I come back. It rained almost the. Whole way home. So and there was this one truck that is affectionately called honey.
John
No.
Jason
It was the yellow truck that was up by the entrance that had the NASCAR inspired Arrow steel wheels. They were they had the 10 inches wide.
John
MHM. We talked to that guy for a bit.
Jason
He did. He was very appreciative that I did a quick little video on it and we've been interacting a little bit on Instagram. That thing is a sweet ride. Battle scars beat up interior. Hooked front license plate and I asked him specifically I. Said. Is that missing a front license plate screw on purpose? And he says you like that, do you? And it was built on a budget, you know, he had the hood popped and everything looked really nice under there. It. Had the gold. Anodyne style Moroso covers valve covers and air breather like. It had. Had some love and I can appreciate that kind of a build just as much as I appreciate. You know something that somebody's got, you know, $100,000 tied up into. I really do it. And because the whole point of being a hobbyist is simply I can do what I can do. I know my limits. I know my budget, but I still love this truck and I'm going to show everybody how much. I love it. That guy was proud of that truck. Just as proud as I was of mine, as you would be of yours. And that's what matters. The dollar value.
John
Yeah.
Jason
Don't mean. 1.
Speaker 4

Remember when you used to go to swap meets and scour parts bins, looking for that one elusive original part you had to take home to clean and repair, you just made more work for yourself.
Jason
It's true. I'm not a trained body man or metal fabricator, and neither is the majority of our enthusiasts that are working on their own projects at home in their garage. For me, finding high quality replacement body panels, rust repair parts, trim and weather stripping is key to making sure my project is ready to get. Out and dry.
John
AMD is the place to find restoration parts, including trim glass and weather stripping when you are restoring iconic vehicles like the square body and OBS GM trucks. Mopar muscle cars and Ford Dent side pickups think of AMD. Whether you're a seasoned restorer.
Jason
Or a hobbyist tackling your first restoration look no further than AMD. Visit autometaldirect.com and explore the AMV garage for helpful restoration tips, insider stories and more. John
Another truck I thought was killer and we walked around it quite a bit was I think it was around I step side blue 10 camper shell Desert fox looking stripes on it and it had 15 inch. Aluminum slots and tires on it.
Jason
Ohh that was a that was. A. It was a. Burgundy truck.
John
Or was it Burgundy? I thought it was like, fruity you aren't you are. Right. And you were right. And Burgundy and it had blue stripes on the burgundy.
Jason
Had the blue stripes that, yeah. It stood out. Who thought you could put a blue stripe? On an emergency truck. And make it look good. That thing looked awesome. Another couple of.
John
You have short bed aluminum pop, pop camper shell. Oh my God it.
Jason
Was awesome and another thing that made that awesome was that they had the roll out roof tent on. It. Not roof tent, but the canopy. So they're sitting there. If it starts raining, they're covered.
John
Yeah, yeah.
Jason
And it did start to rain.
John
Yeah.
Jason
Couple of other trucks notable mentions was Derrick Berry had his OB S truck that Kevin Tates painted. Unveil that thing looked beautiful. The vice grip garage, the Cat farm Crew Cab. It used to be white. Used to say, vice gripped down the side that was completely repainted into an orange with a wood grain in the in the inside of the of the moldings. That was a really nice. Broken truck and. One that really stood out to me. That. I guess might be a little bit of a. Guilty. Pleasure. There was this first Gen. Chevy S10. It had gumby for a license plate. It was dark green. That sucker had a V8 in it and it was a sweet looking truck like you see a lot of different things when you go to these shows.
John
Mm-hmm.
Jason
And I remember having a conversation. With Rick in reference to people wanting to bring certain trucks to his event, and at one point S 10s were not part of the C 10's and the city show to the point where somebody, somewhere along the way had gotten a little bit upset. Granted it is open to. S10S15 trucks. Now it's all squares. It's also open to G vans, so anything from I think what year was it, 70?
John
Square.
Jason
Two or three to like 9-5 or six whenever they think.
John
It I. Yeah, I'm pretty sure, but he'd like to keep it 10 grill. I don't know, but anyway either.
Jason
Either way, it's hard to draw a line when these trucks carried body styles over for so long. I mean, look at the current Chevy. Express.
John
Hmm.
Jason
Been around since the early 2000s and the 2025 model looks the exact same thing, so.
John
All right. Now you now you talk about guilty pleasure. I saw you sniffing around a particular conversion van.
Jason
Even.
John
Square red suburban.
Jason
Maybe.
John
Maybe.
Jason
Yeah. So this that particular truck.
John
It had it. It was all conversion van out the typical 90s conversion van wheel flares, all that jazz. I know. I thought you.
Jason
Yeah, the. The decals were cracked. The grill was damaged, the wheels were pitted, but it had those beautiful BFG's on it. And I fell in love with this ratty old suburban. I mean, I'll tell you what. You know, it's the thing is when you go to a truck show like this, it's hard to pick one. Favorite because a lot of trucks stand out to you for different reasons like that. That ratty old red suburban that wasn't even entered into the show. That was just sitting outside the fence, somebody right. And, you know, there was a lot of people who did not make it.
John
That was somebody's holler.
Jason
To this show, the due to rain. I get it. You're going to travel a long distance to come to a show. And with the threat of rain. I get it. But guys, I traveled 1500 miles, rain or shine and a huge shout out to Dennis over at Jet set detail that when I got there he had his van all set up to do pressure washes, clean shine tires, get things ready, get.
John
Them looking good.
Jason
We collected a lot of bugs and a lot of Rd. Time on the way down on that 1500 miles and the fact that those guys were there to help, you know, get your get your ride looking good again, which he did. Remove the bugs. Get rid of the grime. We were, we were ready to show this thing off.
John
Yeah.
Jason
And I think that the show is. Was very well put together. I know you said at some point that it wasn't your. Type of dough or whatever. I don't know what you were. Getting at there but think.
John
I was saying that one particular vehicle from Built-By-Yo that was not that that truck was not my cup of tea. Yeah, but it was cool.
Jason
Oh, OK, I get it. Yeah. But the whole thing is that you can go to, you can go to. Any car show and there's.
John
You can see so much stuff.
Jason
Going to be a lot. Yeah. There's gonna be a lot. Of things that you just don't like. All it takes is that one or two. That you absolutely fall in love with that make you say that was a damn good show and see 10s in the city, 2025 in my opinion.
Announcer
Was a damn good show.
Jason
I'm sure many of you know that I flew across the country to Kansas to buy a 1990 Chevy suburban. That I've seen only in photos I rounded up John and we took the suburban on a 2000 mile test drive back home to Canada because that's what carry guys. So it was obvious that I was going to need some panel replacement, rust repair and other restoration parts replaced, but I wasn't worried why? Because I knew AMD had high quality restoration parts for square body OS GM trucks. Both power muscle cars and Ford Dent side pickups. Be sure to subscribe to the OldeCarrguy YouTube channel to follow along as I restore my suburban with quality AMD parts. Visit autometaldirect.com and use the code GOND for a 10% discount exclusively for our listeners for a limited time AMD built for enthusiasts by enthusiasts.
John
Now Jason, he tends to the city was pretty fun, but I know I. Had. I had a ton of fun. We went to a personal tour of AMD at their. Warehouse Jason Chandler and Eddy Cebreco were very gracious to show us around. Eddy was getting ready for the show the next day. He was jamming everything in the back of the trailer and everything. Their brand new bigass trailer. But Jason showed us around everywhere and showed us the INS and outs of that place and the rumor that it's about to get really, really, really bigger.
Jason
Yeah. You know, if if you guys ever have the opportunity to stop into AMD. When you go into the showroom as nice and as beautiful and as big as it is. It is the smallest room in the entire building and. You know, we got to see lots. We got to see the warehouse and how they have dedicated shipping for some of their suppliers or they have the supplier for some of their retailers like, you know, Jags and some and some. Of those guys. Every Bay has its own spot. Every rap has its own color for a specific thing, and knowing everything that they carry in that warehouse, you know what? The one statistic that stood out to me about that whole. 4.
John
What was?
Jason
That that from one end of the building to the other.
John
Oh yeah.
Jason
Measures almost a quarter of a mile.
John
This we put in a lot of steps. When you go to a shipping place and they have a dedicated wood shop. Of steps that day.
Jason
We did.
John
Strictly for making crates for shipments, you know they're like. Down to it, they know what's happening. They're not going to damage your stuff.
Jason
Now, and he even showed us the pile of damaged stuff, the returns.
John
It wasn't even a pile. It was like a couple of pieces laying in the corner.
Jason
Because people. And those pieces don't go to waste either, he says. Like a lot, they'll dedicate a lot of that, or, sorry, they'll donate some of that stuff to local area schools for their shop classes, for different projects that they're doing. So you get a hood that's got the corners bent up on it. Well, what about what? An opportunity to teach these kids a little bit of body work and how to fix some of that stuff.
John
Right. Good.
Jason
But they like we are we think of AMD and we think square body Chevy truck parts that is a small fraction of what they do John they had this beautiful you know more about it than I do I think it was. A fair lane.
John
They did. They had a 63 Galaxy XL.
Jason
Yeah. Yep, and almost every panel on that car that was put together was AMD stuff.
John
Yeah, they do not have a roof. They do not have inner door structure. And a couple of inter quarter sale panel pieces. But 8080% of that car can be. New. And there's a lot of people behind that car, a lot of factory, lightweight looking cars, a lot of FX looking, factory race cars. All that stuff can be finally restored using their parts and we saw them everything from firewalls to flow. Doors, trunk, floor, trunk, drop offs, tail panel quarters, inner quarters. Wheelhouses. I can't even stand up. Beautiful, beautiful pieces.
Jason
Mopar B bodies dent side bump side Fords as we as Jason mentioned in the interview that we did if you had.
Speaker 4
MHM.
Jason
If you guys haven't listened to that, go back and listen to our interview with Jason Chandler. Getting into some of the early Bronco stuff, which is new for them. So it's not, they're not just a square body store, they, they're dealing in a lot of stuff. And as they grow from what we understand, there is an almost equally sized warehouse.
John
MHM.
Jason
Across the road that now is part of their. Umbrella they they've opened up a lot of their warehousing and to store a lot more stuff. So they are growing, they are huge part suppliers to a lot of big names out there. I'm not going to start listing them all because I would forget some. But chances are if you've ordered.
John
M.
Jason
Body panels from a number of these big nationwide part suppliers, they likely came from AMD and that's huge. That there are other companies out there that are selling their product, helping them do what they do and they do direct ship. If you buy right from them too. So I was impressed. They've got a very clean shop. They've got a dedicated R&D shop, Outback.
John
We got to see some secret.
Jason
We did. And some of that stuff will be available on our YouTube channel, get out N drive. We're going to be putting together a little bit of a show on that tour. So you'll be able to see some. Of that stuff and. John, one of the things that I found amazing was. They have a photo studio. That would make a lot of, I don't know, modeling agencies jealous. What were they using?
John
For they I walked in and I thought, oh, this is somebody's office, one whole side of it is nothing but lights. And it has all sorts of endless walls placed and not head round corners and everything. They're putting their parts, they take them right out-of-the-box, fresh off the line. These are not shined up show pieces of anything. This is what you as a consumer will get. They pull stuff randomly off the floor. They put it in front of a camera and they have one guy that's his only job, I think. 360 viewing. Now you can go on their site. You can scroll, you can turn flip it over. Now some other sites you look and they've got boom. They've got a picture of a piece you want this thing buy it or not. I don't care. AMD you can turn the piece 360. See the inside of it, see every part of the thing, and it was a wonderful, wonderful studio with very creative minds, mind.
Jason
Yeah. And the, the fact that they had a full on square body truck sitting out front that was built out of AMD parts as well as a. I'm going to forget the name of the cab company that makes the makes the Chevy cab.
John
All the one that puts together their parts I cannot remember their name. I'm sorry. Yeah.
Jason
We will flash it up on screen for those who are watching. Us here now that they build. Cabs for square body trucks and AMD provides. Almost. Every aspect, every sheet, metal panel piece, cross member box, tailgate, bumper brackets, lights more than metal. They're doing interior pieces. They're doing hood ornaments. They're doing trim. Like all this stuff is now available. It's not just sheet metal, it's. More than metal.
AMD
Ohh hey guys, this is Jason here with AMD and you're watching the get out N drive podcast. Check this out.
Jason
More than metal.
John
I never thought I'd be able to buy complete aftermarket pieces for an OBS Chevy truck.
Jason
Yeah. You know and.
John
AMD's got it.
Jason
AMD's got it, grills, bumpers, wheel well, opening moldings, Thunder welds.
John
You name it. No, not Thunder welds. Stop that.
Jason
Ohh shoot, you don't know what a Thunder Weld is, that's in a Previous episode go find it.
John
Well, go ahead. A huge.
Jason
I was going to say a huge shout out to Jason Chandler, Eddy Cebreco and Zach Huckleberry, those guys huge Huge fans of ours, we're huge fans of theirs and we thank them for taking us through, showing us what it is that they have to offer. And look, guys, I think it's something that the world needs to see. It's not. It's not just metal, it's a lot of other stuff. They support this industry so heavily. They are at so many different shows they go to C-10s in the City. They're at SEMA, they're at C-10 truck nationals. They go to all these different. Places to get their name out there and you know what? They're not afraid to support the small guy like you and me, John. That's why AMD has been our title sponsor for 2025 of the Get Out N Drive podcast. And we are calling it fueled by AMD. We're so happy to have them on board. We are thankful. The fact that they invited us down to C-10s in the city and to their warehouse to give us a personal tour to see what it's all about. John, any final thoughts on AMD and what we saw while we were there?
John
I don't know, man. I'm my brain is still going. It's been a bit since we've been from been back from C-10s in the city and AMD but. I just. I'm still astonished by everything that a MB has available their turn around time and everything on their orders is down to about one day or so for in stock items it's amazing.
Jason
Yep, looking forward to C-10s in the City. 2026.
