Yep, and Troy.
John
And Troy, you guys both own the car, right? And I'm sure other than the movie, there's an incredible story on how you found it, why it's.
Tony
Yep.
Troy
Yeah, there actually. Do you want to start?
Jeff
Yeah. So.
Troy
He's been rehearsing it since. Like he left on the plane.
Jeff
Yeah. So it starts as at the weekend before this came up for auction, I was at the race track and Ozarks, and our buddy Dalton texted me and literally said, hey. 
Jeff
I know you're going next weekend and like what you talking about? Cause your car's coming up. You have to buy it. I'm like, what are you talking about? Is the Joe Dirt car? It's coming up sale at Barry Jackson next weekend and. He knows I've always wanted that car, so. The ad was kind of funky and it said Joe Dirt tribute car then said Daytona. And I'm like, man, if somebody went to a lot of work I don't want unless it's real. So I called him and I said, you know anything about it and you did.
John
OK.
Troy
And I said. We're going to bid on it. He says he's bidding on it and he says it's a. Nice. It's not a tribute. That's the Real McCoy. Really. Yeah. So we went back and forth a little bit.
Jeff
Yeah. So I go. All he you were going after some cars and I said, well, I'm going to go. I'm going. To fly down, I'm going to go to the auction.
Troy
I was driving, we were going to bid on. It. Online, so go ahead.
John
OK.
Jeff
So I'm flying down there and I'm like. Worst case scenario, I'm going to take, you know, hundreds and hundreds of pictures of this. Meanwhile, he's got this blue super bird that he had dug out of Mississippi for sale on Facebook. And I'm like. You know what? Maybe I'll just buy. The. Super Bird and then. You know I'll make. I'll do what I did now, but the problem.
John
I.
Jeff
He's got a guy in Texas at once and it's sitting in California and he's like, I don't mean to pressure. You, but you got to buy this thing today or it's going. Once it's gone right that guy's. Buying it, there was no buyer. No, I'm just getting.
Tony
Yeah.
Jeff
But anyway, Long story short, I'm talking to him on the in the airport and we're on the phone and I'm like, alright, I'll buy that bird. So we did a deal on that and I'm like, so it goes to how much you going to bid on the car and then? I. Just bought this car, so maybe. 15175 Tops and I asked him and he said 200 to 2:25. Or, you know, you know. So we're sitting there and but he was he just say I'll let you bid first if you get it good if once you drop out I'm jumping in and that's when I just thought you want we both.
Troy
Whatever it goes to.
Jeff
Thought the car was going to go, you know? Over 250. So I just said. Why don't we just go in halves? And I'd rather own half the car than none of the car. If we go in halves. We're going to.
John
Oh.
Tony
We're going to buy. Yeah. Double your body power.
Troy
And I've never partnered at this point. I had never partnered with anybody on a car ever because it's.
John
Never park as it's hard enough purchase.
Troy
It's problematic. You know, if you get the wrong partnership, right? So him and I, we became friends here actually four years ago.
John
Right.
Jeff
Yeah. There we go. Yeah.
Troy
And then we keep in contact. You share information and stuff and we just we just have always enjoyed each.
Tony
We bought later on.
Troy
Other's company and we.
Jeff
You just bought that copper 500 from. Me, we had just.
Troy
Been out to his place so.

Uh.
Troy
We both knew each. Other was real. We were gonna, you know, we had good intentions for the car. And so he says, hey, why don't we go on halves? And I'm. I'm thinking about it.
John
Yeah.
Troy
And I would. Normally. Say ah and.
John
Right.
Troy
I was like, you know what? Let's do that. And so he was going there. And since it's cheaper to bid on it, you know, in person versus online, he took the lead in bidding.

Sure.
Troy
And I was literally driving through the fireworks stands and Arizona and New Mexico on the phone.
John
Right, yeah.
Jeff
Yeah, I can't hear anything.
Troy
He's on the phone. He can't hear me. He's bidding and I'm on the phone. You see it on my YouTube. You see it on his YouTube channel. And all of a sudden we won and. He had to lift his shirt.
Jeff
Yeah. And show his tattoo that I've had. Yeah.
Tony
Show is taxi, yeah.
Troy
You know you're committed. You either need to be committed 5150 or you're committed.
John
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're committed or you need to. Be committed, yeah.
Jeff
Yeah, but no, it worked out. It worked out awesome because I wouldn't be after buying that super. But I mean, there's no way I'm going to be able to have enough money to buy that. Wow, so. Both want the car so bad we just made.
Troy
It work made it work and he had it slipped out of his hands like 20 years ago on eBay.
Jeff
I watched this thing sell like in 2002 on eBay for like 2022 grand. And I mean that was, yeah, I mean, I just bought a house. I. Two year like young kids, I mean, I did have that orange super bird that I bought for 21. So here's how I'm thinking. They took a year before I bought a real super bird to restore for $21,000. OK, so here I am.
John
Ohh.
Jeff
I can't spend more than I did on Super board on this ship box. I just.
Troy
Justify that.
Jeff
Plus, I was going to borrow every penny. Right. So and I just, I'm like it's not worth it. You know, I just, I mean I remember reading the article on Mopar's Collectors guide. I knew everything about it. I knew it wasn't real. It was 318 car and I want to say I kind of talked. Myself out of it, but. I did. I mean, we can do go to the bank say I need. 22 grand to buy this and they're going. Yeah, sure.
Troy
And this is 20 years ago, when 22 grand was different and we were younger.
John
Sure, sure, sure.
Troy
You know what?
John
For people that are going to listen and watch this. Give everybody a brief history on this car. Obviously it's from the movie. What is it? Why did they make it like this? Is there a reason that this? Car is. In this configuration, absolutely.
Troy
Yeah. I mean, we have all the receipts that she cancelled checks and all stuff. They actually rented it from somebody that built it, which is that, what's his name or something like?
Jeff
Documentation.
Tony
That it was already like I was already like cloning it.
John
It's OK.
Tony
It was already. Kind of done. And then they and somebody just posted this.
Jeff
But it.
Troy
Was just. Yeah, just Daytona not, you know, obviously the movie didn't exist in the past. It was going to be purple. It's all purple underneath, you know, underneath the hood and stuff. And then. A.
Jeff
But it's going to be purple, I believe. OK, Jan.
Tony
And that that test spot on the.
Troy
Go ahead. Door. That's an actual test spot, and the guy that came out and said, yeah, leave it like that.
Tony
That's.
John
Yes.
Troy
The movie place. Ohh. And so that's what. Understand about it. Right and so.
John
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But there is only 1 of this. There's not a close up car, 1/2 car, a buck, a hero car. That's it. OK.
Troy
Is the only one. This is the only one. This is the. Only one it left in two. 2002 it three it went to the Netherlands and it was in a museum in the Netherlands.
Jeff
Oh, that's why nobody's ever.
Troy
Seen it, OK, and all of a sudden I see it on the thing and it says tribute and we did some research and I'm like, that's no tribute. So when he called me and they were saying tribute, I'm like, yeah, that's not a tribute. That's what they did. Jackson messed up. It was a last minute add to the.
John
Why did the seller think it was a tribute he didn't know?
Jeff
The Carberry Jackson wrote it in the art in the magazine, I understand.
Troy
It wasn't like black ghosts, where they paraded it around the last minute.
John
I see. But, but that's a see, that's a that's. A bear Jackson CYA.
Tony
Well the problem.
Troy
Is yes, yes. But people were calling and they were saying it's a tribute.
John
If they didn't do the research on it, this would be a tribute. Did Joe Dirt and the 18 year old that's doing the copy just goes. I see. I see.
Tony
Yeah. Yeah, the real the real Goodyear car attribute Daytona and not attribute, they change, they changed it before the.
Jeff
Didn't read right.
John
English is crazy.
Tony
Yes. Yeah, there was people that reached out, people that reached out afterwards and were like I didn't. I specifically didn't buy it because of the.
Troy
No details. The Devils in the details.
John
I called them because I thought it was a clone.
Troy
They thought it was a clone. Everybody thought. It was a. Clone we didn't.
John
Well, it's a really good clone. Yeah.
Troy
Well, this is a really.
John
This is a really good clone. I dig it out, so talk us through this car. Why does this car exist? Well.
Tony
Good thing, yeah.
Troy
Yeah. Because he's crazy.
Jeff
Yeah, absolutely. I really wanted.
John
I'll accept that.
Jeff
Something to be a daily driver. Sure. OK. I will drive this thing all the time. This car. I mean, besides having the value. I mean, you know, to us it's priceless. But I mean. Them sticking this in the auction, I mean this. Should have you know. If you were going to sell this car, it should be like he said, trade it around for a year and sell Saturday night at Barrett Jackson prime time. With the big. Money.
John
Oh yeah, it should have.
Jeff
Big promotion behind it. Yeah. So which is good for us because you know it that easily sold for twice as much.
Troy
Did not do that. And going.
John
Yeah.
Troy
Actually, the guy reached out to me on Instagram like about a year and a half earlier from the Netherlands and offered to sell it to me for a little. Bit more than. What we paid for it.
John
MHM.
Troy
And. Going to the Netherlands and all this stuff and then just it just didn't happen. It was a lot of money. At the time. You know, with us chasing cars, it's like we have a bunch and then we have none. And then we have a bunch and it just didn't work. And I never went back. I get so many emails, so many messages. I just never got back to it. And then all of a sudden it came.
John
Yeah.
Troy
Up now it's available to everybody and we're like, we didn't know if it was going to go for. 150,000 or a million. We really didn't know because it's the only one that's never been sold.
John
Ohh select yeah. Well, yeah, that plus alcohol and bidding.
Troy
Yeah. And we would have been the alcohol and bidding if we had a million, but we didn't. We didn't have that to spend.
John
Yeah, right. Yeah. Wait, wait. It went for exactly.
Troy
But we had we had 300 between the players, OK.
Jeff
What we thought it. Was going to go for wow exact.
Troy
Yes.
John
Wow.
Troy
And he had offered it to me for 3:50 on the message which we couldn't negotiate or whatever. But at the end of the day, it worked out exactly the way it was supposed to work out him and I were great partners with it. We don't care if we ever sell it, really. And when we do, we're gonna sell. It right, and we're always gonna. Treat each other right, because that's the way. We work well. Then Jeff will get to keep his. Yeah, no matter what.
Jeff
I'll drive this thing, yeah.
Troy
And this is the killer driver.
John
And you did you. Build this car as it sits. You've done all.
Troy
Yeah, four months.
John
That everything but Tina and.
Jeff
I had a I got an airbrush artist, good friend of mine up in.
John
All that.
Jeff
Cedar Rapids, OK.
Troy
It's the most expensive ship box looking paint job you ever seen.
Jeff
Yep. Wait, wait.
Troy
Because that's. All airbrushed.
Jeff
Yeah. So he took. I took both cars up to him and he had.
John
Sure.
Jeff
It for six.
John
Weeks and nice.
Jeff
OK, this is what we got.
Tony
This was a this was. An all blue black Round Top. White tear, super burn before he started. Yeah.
Troy
Up he pulled out for me the first week of COVID, him and Bailey. We chased it down in Mississippi and pulled it out of a bar. And this is a real barn. Find that on the line. They go. It was so nice looking that everybody doubted that it was a real barn.
Tony
Yeah.
John
And a real Superbird.
Troy
Yeah, and but it had its problems. It wasn't a perfect car, it just looked it. In the video but.
Jeff
Look, look rude.
Troy
This this particular car was our very first bird that we ever purchased and we purchased.
John
What's true?
Tony
Yeah.
Troy
So this is our. 1st and it was just time to.
John
One wow right. Which the coolest part of it? Noise.
Troy
Thin the herd a little. Bit boot it up. Had a. Lot of interest and then you. Know I want to sell my friend first.
Jeff
Or I needed it needed a white interior. Seats to match this.
John
Right.
Jeff
And it did.
Tony
It's already there.
Jeff
So we didn't have doing the tier swap, yeah.
John
Again, planets are lining up, checking all the boxes. Yeah, that's amazing. That is amazing.
Jeff
Yeah, I mean I I've had so much fun doing. I found the exact same 8 track that's in here, same brand and everything. This has got a 490-6440 source motor and it got have already had built for another car and then Ace is fuel injection. I did see the Serpentine belt air conditioning is already charged. Did new Tremec 5 speed did Wilwood brakes?

Yeah. Sure. Wow.
Jeff
That is 373 rear end green bearings.
John
Wow. Neat, neat pair of cars.
Jeff
Yeah. The other thing's really cool. Is this blue one came with the exact same tire, the same size. That's. On the joker.
John
Part Ohh Wow again, planets in order.
Troy
Yeah, yeah, I. Really did. And you know, sometimes partnerships have to happen. Yeah. And I couldn't have a better partner than him. I agree. Just like with Dalton on the two good partners, you know? So.
John
